Meet the Mets
With the World Series over, free agency has officially begun. Three new free agents are Wilson Ramos, Todd Frazier, and Robinson Chirinos since the team declined their options.
The Mets could be a big player in the free agent market making it a big offseason for the team.
A lot of the offseason is dependent on the sale of the team going to Steve Cohen, but Mayor Bill de Blasio is reportedly not happy with the billionaire taking over, but he denied those rumors. Alex Rodriguez and his group could be the driving force behind these stories.
Around the National League East
The Marlins exercised the team option on Starling Marte to keep him in Miami for another year for $12.5 million.
J.T. Realmuto is officially the biggest free agent available but he doesn’t seemed thrilled with the prospect of signing in New York.
The Nationals officially announced their couching staff for the 2021 season with Randy Knorr taking over first base coach duties.
Washington declined the options on Adam Eaton, Anibal Sanchez, and Howie Kendrick.
Around Major League Baseball
The biggest news was still surrounding the Dodgers but unfortunately it was not about their World Series victory, it was instead about the reckless actions of Justin Turner who ignored security in order to celebrate with his teammates despite testing positive for COVID-19.
This happened under Rob Manfred’s watch, and despite the commissioner being in attendance no action was taken in real time but instead, Manfred issued a strong statement denouncing Turner’s actions.
As they investigate how this incident with Turner happened, there are four main questions that need to be answered.
How could this have happened on baseball’s biggest night and what went wrong with their bubble?
Baseball once again served as a microcosm for what is going on in this country with their mishandling of the virus on full display.
The Cardinals declined the team option on Kolten Wong which could be a portent of things to come for this offseason.
The Rockies bought out Daniel Murphy making him a free agent.
