Along with being Mets fans, many of us at Amazin’ Avenue are bibliophiles and voracious readers. We figure that there must be more of us out there, folks whose bookshelves are full of baseball books, so we are launching the Amazin’ Avenue Book Club!
Each month, we will pick a different Mets or baseball-related book to discuss, alternating between non-fiction and fiction. Our first choice is The Captain: A Memoir by David Wright and Anthony DiComo, which hits bookstores on October 13th. We will have an optional mid-point discussion on October 27th and a full book discussion on November 10th. Both discussions will happen in the comments of posts created for this purpose.
Our little band of book lovers has been brainstorming some future titles, but we would love your input. If you’ve got an idea for a Mets or baseball related book, add it in the comments below, and we will add it to our big list for consideration. Some potential future picks include Big Sexy by Bartolo Colon and Michael Stahl, The Resisters by Gish Jen, and The Great American Novel by Philip Roth.
So, reserve your copy at your library, or pick up the book via your local bookseller, and get to reading The Captain.
