Around Major League Baseball

Following their trade with the Rays, the Padres continued their flurry of moves, reportedly inking South Korean infielder Ha-Seong Kim to a contract.

But they weren’t done there. Sources are reporting that San Diego is set to acquire Yu Darvish, the pitcher who served up Pete Alonso’s record-breaking 42nd home run in 2019, along with catcher Victor Caratini from the Cubs in a seven-player trade that will further bolster their already-improved rotation.

In return, Chicago will get right-hander Zach Davies along with prospects Reginald Preciado, Owen Caissie, Ismael Mena, and Yeison Santana.

The Cubs will also absorb some of Darvish’ salary.

The Padres’ top-5 farm system allowed them to make their two most recent trades, something Steve Cohen acknowledged on Twitter and something he understands his team needs to work on replenishing.
