Meet the Mets

As of now the Mets are still planning to play Opening Day in front of fans, but the situation could change considering what is going on with other sports.

The team rewarded Pete Alonso for his outstanding rookie season with a record-breaking raise for 2020.

Michael Conforto’s oblique strain was diagnosed as mild but there is no timetable for his return just yet.

Even though the injury isn’t expected to be serious, the Mets are now facing a depth problem in their outfield.

One solution could be to move J.D. Davis over to right field if Conforto is not ready by Opening Day.

Eduardo Nunez has a shot at making the team now that he is finally healthy and contributing to the team this spring.

David Wright is settling into his new role with the front office and is happy with the flexibility it gives him to spend time with his family.

Around the National League East

Max Fried and the Braves defeated the Twins in Grapefruit League action.

The unstoppable spring training Marlins won again.

Phillies’ reliever Seranthony Dominguez suffered a setback attempting to come back from an elbow injury. He was hoping to avoid Tommy John surgery and right now it is unclear if that is going to be the outcome of this latest injury.

The Nationals rallied late to beat the Astros under much different circumstances than when they met in October.

Around Major League Baseball

After a player tested positive for COVID-19, the NBA suspended games for the rest of the season and Major League Baseball could follow suit.

The Mariners were looking at alternative places to play their home games in light of Washington’s ban on large gatherings, but that plan will do little to stop the spread of the virus.

The Cardinals are reportedly interested in extending Yadier Molina.

Johnny Cueto was named the Giants Opening Day starter against the Dodgers.

The Cactus League can trace its roots back to a natural hot springs that reportedly had healing powers.

Yesterday at Amazin’ Avenue

On Episode 40 of A Pod of Their Own, Michael Conforto’s injury, the outfield depth, and the coronavirus were all discussed.

Maggie Wiggin went with a bold prediction and thinks Jacob deGrom will have another masterful season.
