The Mets brought the power to Boston to the tune of three home runs to defeat the Red Sox 7-4.
One day after getting embarrassed by the Braves, the Amazins finally broke out against Boston’s patchwork pitching. Michael Conforto got it started in the second inning when he hit a two-run blast off opener Josh Osich. Pete Alonso faced a different pitcher in the third but it ended with the same result when he smoked a scorcher over the monster for a two-run shot of his own. Finally, Dominic Smith, who got the start at DH, added to reliever Jeffrey Springs’s misery and blasted a three-run shot to right center off of him in the fourth. Boston finally brought in Zack Godley who put an end to the to the Mets offense.
As for the Mets, they sent Michael Wacha to the mound to make his debut and he looked good using a wicked change to keep hitters off balance. He gave up one run on a home run but otherwise looked good. The bullpen was a different story. Chasen Shreve gave up a run in two innings of work and Jeurys Familia couldn’t make it out of the eighth and left after giving up two runs. Seth Lugo relieved him to end the inning and nail down the save.
