Meet the Mets

The Mets failed to capitalize with runners on base late in last night’s game against the Red Sox, and lost 4-2. The Mets open a four game series against the Braves in Atlanta, wih Rick Porcello slated to face off against Sean Newcomb.

The Mets designated Hunter Strickland for assignment and called up Daniel Zamora to take his place.

The Mets also placed Eduardo Nunez on the 10-day injured list yesterday and called Brian Dozier up to replace him on the roster. Dozier chose to sign with the Mets, at least in part, because of how seriously the team is taking health protocols. He will wear number 15 with the Mets.

Dozier also opened up about his reasons for requesting his release from the Padres earlier this month.

The Mets finally received some clarity on the knee injury that has kept Jed Lowrie out of action since spring training 2019. Lowrie was diagnosed with PCL Laxity, and the Mets are unsure if he will need to have surgery to correct it.

Marcus Stroman is reportedly scheduled to face live hitters for the first time since being placed on the 10-day IL on July 22 with a torn calf.

The Mets have upgraded to a bigger charter plane to help better their social distancing efforts while traveling.

Another Marlins player tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total for the team’s outbreak to 17 players and two coaches.

This weekend’s games between the Blue Jays and Phillies have been postponed after a member of the coaching staff and a member of the home clubhouse staff tested positive for COVID-19. The Phillies have canceled all activity at Citizens Bank Ballpark until further notice.

The Braves outrighted Mike Foltynewicz to their alternate training site.

The Miami Marlins signed switch-pitcher Pat Venditte to a minor league deal.
