The Mets dropped the second game of the series against the Phillies 6-0 tonight at Citizen’s Bank Park. Steven Matz looked excellent in the first four innings, giving up just a solo home run to Jean Segura. He was hitting his spots and in control, unlike how he was been this season thus far. However, in the fifth inning, the wheels came off, and five earned runs later, Matz was out after four and third innings.
The Mets’ continued difficulty hitting with runners in scoring position persisted, and could not get anything across off of Aaron Nola, who absolutely dominated the Mets over his seven innings of work. The Mets only offense came in the top of the ninth inning, when Dominic Smith homered for the fourth straight game. Despite the bit of hope at the end, this was another anemic Mets performance in a ballpark that should favor their offensive prowess.
