Final score: Phillies 6, Mets 2 - Another Porcell-Oh-No

Depressing weather, depressing game.

The Mets continued their uninspiring 2020, falling 6-2 to the Phillies to complete a three-game sweep. Rick Porcello seemed fine through five innings, but a couple bad breaks and a big home run sank his outing in the sixth. A horrific defensive inning with Jared Hughes on the mound put the game further out of reach in the seventh.

Offensively, the story was much the same as the rest of the season. Despite multiple opportunities to score against Zack Wheeler early, the Mets collectively went 1-for-6 with RISP, leaving five me on base (not their worst line of the season by far, but not good). Then, once Wheeler departed, the offense couldn’t get anything going against a Phillie bullpen that entered the series with an ERA north of ten.

With roughly 40% of the season already in the books, the Mets now sit at 9-14, leaving them well out of even the expanded playoff picture. Robert Gsellman will be on the mound tomorrow night for the first of four games against the surprising first place Marlins.

Full recap to follow.
