Final Score: Mets 11, Marlins 4 — The Canó Show

The power of Pete and the runs from Robbie lead the Mets to a win in the series opener.

It’s unknown what the next triumvirate of games in Miami will bring, but a 11-4 victory in the first game of the series is a good start. The offense was able to overcome a slog of a five-out start from Robert Gsellman and produced a lead for Chasen Shreve, Jeurys Familia, Brad Brach, and Franklyn Kilome to bring home with 7.2 innings of three-run ball.

It was certainly a group-effort as every single hitter in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit and seven different players crossed home plate, but Robinson Canó and Pete Alonso were just a step above the rest of the Metsies. Canó kept his hot 2020 rolling with a pair of home runs and and a single to go along with his 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored on the night. Pete Alonso matched Canó’s pair of homers with two of his own in addition to two walks and a single. While his night wasn’t as flashy, Dominic Smith started things off with two runs driven in on his double in the second inning.

Full recap to follow.
