The Mets beat the Marlins in a frustrating and exciting game in Miami, 5-3. Jacob deGrom was magnificent over six scoreless innings, giving up just four singles and no walks, while striking out seven. The Mets held the lead for most of the game, before the seventh inning began an adventure of a final nine outs.
Each pitcher the Mets brought into the game - Jeurys Familia, Justin Wilson, Dellin Betances, and Edwin Diaz - contributed somehow to the loss of the lead, leading to Diaz walking in the tying run in the bottom of the eighth. This is due, in part, to the suggestion that the Mets will be starting Seth Lugo tomorrow, and therefore he wasn’t available tonight.
However, the ninth inning saw the Mets triumph. A two out, two-run home run by Michael Conforto put the Mets back out in front. Diaz settled in and struck out the side to end the game and allow Mets fans time to exhale.
Full recap to follow.
