Jacob deGrom had his best start of the 2020 season, as he tied a career high striking out 14 Marlins batters and going seven innings for the first time this season. He finished his night especially strong, retiring the last nine batters he faced, striking out seven of those last nine.
However, the Mets bullpen was unable to secure the win for deGrom as things went south in the eighth inning. Justin Wilson and Edwin Diaz ran into trouble as the Marlins put up a three spot to tie the game.
In the bottom half of the eighth, after Robinson Cano led off the inning with a single and Billy Hamilton pinch ran for him, Wilson Ramos drove in the go-ahead single with two outs to give the Mets a 5-4 lead and victory.
Full recap to follow.
