The Mets began their doubleheader by continuing their offensive struggles from this week, and then flipped the game entirely in the sixth inning, finishing off their biggest comeback win of the year.
Pete Alonso tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth with a three-run home run, briefly tying Dominic Smith for the team lead at six. Smith would retake the lead three batters later, hitting a go-ahead solo home run to right center field. Jake Marisnick in his first game back from the IL followed the Smith home run with his first home run of the season.
Starter Michael Wacha returned from the IL by striking out seven but giving up four runs through three innings. Walker Lockett, Dellin Betances, and Edwin Diaz held the Yankees scoreless in the final four innings to close out the win.
Full recap to follow after Game 2.
