Last season, during the month of September, A Pod of Their Own conducted the inaugural #Dollars4Dingers fundraiser, which raised thousands of dollars for the National Domestic Violence Foundation between pledges for every Mets home run during that month and the culminating raffle and fundraising event at Mikkeller NYC. We were blown away by the support from the Mets fan community for this campaign that started as a small idea and became something so much bigger.
We wanted to make this an annual tradition in order to use our platform to continue to support causes we care about. Unfortunately, things are obviously a little different this year. There will be no in person fundraising event at Mikkeller. The baseball season is already potentially in jeopardy. But we didn’t want to use that as an excuse for inaction, especially during a time when so many people are suffering and need these donations more than ever.
This year, we are doing a modified #Dollars4Dingers campaign in support of the Food Bank for New York City. The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened an existing hunger crisis in America and our local food banks desperately need our support.
If you are interested in participating in this year’s #Dollars4Dingers effort, please use this spreadsheet or this Google form to enter your dollar amount pledge for every Mets home run in the month of August. Anyone who makes a pledge in any amount will then be eligible for a random drawing of several prizes we have lined up. We will be conducting a virtual event at the culmination of the fundraiser to announce the winners, the total amount raised, and socialize and share some drinks even if we can’t be together in person. We hope you will join us.
We understand the season is on thin ice right now and should the season be canceled, we will announce a contingency plan for #Dollars4Dingers. But for now, let’s step up to the plate and get pledging!
