The Mets used their power bats to defeat the Marlins 8-4 at Citi Field. Big home runs by Michael Conforto, Pete Alonso, and J.D. Davis helped lead the Amazins to a win they desperately needed against the division leaders.
David Peterson got the start, and despite losing the strike zone twice, got through five innings and allowed only two runs. Once he exited, the pesky Marlin offense inched closer against Jeurys Familia who was all over the place in his appearance. Miami made it a one run game at the time when Drew Smith allowed two inherited runs to score, but overall the bullpen was great. The most encouraging development was the return of Robert Gsellman who struck out two in his one inning of work.
The true standout of the game, however, was J.D. Davis. He not only extended his hit streak to 12, he drove in four runs including a three-run shot in the seventh to put the game away.
Overall, it was a solid team win in all facets of the game despite the hiccup by Familia.
