Final score: Mets 7, Braves 2—The Offense Strikes Back

A strong start by David Peterson and an offensive outbreak gives the Mets a much needed victory.

The Mets came back from an embarrassing loss last night with style. David Peterson gave the Mets a great performance, and the offense was able to build on that while the bullpen held it together for the last few innings.

Peterson came out and pitched what was the game of his career thus far. In six innings, Peterson gave up only three hits and one earned run (an Adam Duvall solo home run) while striking out ten, throwing 102 pitches. The bullpen patched together three innings with only one run on a Travis d’Arnaud home run given up by Jeurys Familia.

The Mets offense started out the game in the first by loading the bases on three walks before Robinson Cano drove in two with a single. The offense didn’t stop there, with Robinson Chirinos getting an RBI in the fourth, and then an offensive outbreak in the bottom of the eighth inning with back to back home runs from Dominic Smith and Robinson Cano, and a two RBI single from Brandon Nimmo, ending with a 7-2 Mets victory.

Full recap to follow.
