Final score: Rays 2, Mets 1—deGrom electric, Mets lose anyway

deGrom tied his career high in strikeouts.

Jacob deGrom was electric, striking out fourteen as he gave up just two runs in seven innings of work, but the Mets scored just one run and lost. deGrom was electric out of the gate, blowing away the first three hitters he faced. His only flaws were the home run he allowed to Brandon Lowe in the fourth and a run he allowed on a sac fly in the second, the latter of which involved some mishaps by the Mets’ defense before that run scored.

The Mets’ lone run came on an infield single by Jeff McNeil with the bases loaded, a ball that was hit well but stopped on a nice defensive play by the Rays’ defense.

Full recap to follow.
