The Mets have activated right-handed relief pitcher Dellin Betances from the injured list and optioned fellow right-handed pitcher Corey Oswalt to their alternate site in Brooklyn. Betances has not pitched in a game since August 29, a game that the Mets lost when he threw a wild pitch that resulted in the Yankees scoring a walk-off run.
In 10.1 innings out of the Mets’ bullpen this year, Betances has a 6.10 ERA and 4.24 FIP with just 6.97 strikeouts per nine innings, a sharp decrease from the numbers he put up between 2014 and 2018 with the Yankees before missing almost all of the 2019 season with injuries.
Oswalt has thrown 13.0 innings for the Mets this season and has a 4.85 ERA and 5.18 FIP over that span. He made one start and has made three relief appearances, all of which came with the Mets trailing significantly at the time he entered the game.
