Meet the Mets

The day after the best player to ever wear their uniform passed away, the Mets came from behind to defeat the Yankees in extra innings. J.D. Davis tied the game at 7-7 with a solo shot off of Aroldis Chapman in the bottom of the ninth. Edwin Diaz pitched a second scoreless top of the tenth to keep the game tied, and Pete Alonso hit a majestic two-run homer in the bottom of the tenth to give the Mets a 9-7 victory over their crosstown rivals.

The Mets honored Tom Seaver in a number of different ways during last night’s game, including covering their knees with dirt before the game in an ode to the Franchise’s drop-and-drive delivery, displaying vintage Shea Stadium era scoreboard graphics, and wearing a special uniform patch.

The Mets also announced that the Mets’ Tom Seaver statue will be unveiled in early 2021.
