An Andres Gimenez misplay in the seventh inning and a Dominic Smith error in the eighth allowed the Phillies to take the series opener against the Mets, giving Philadelphia their tenth win in their last eleven games. Smith’s RBI single in the 8th inning gave the Mets a chance to rally, but a Robinson Cano line drive and Pete Alonso pop fly both landed in the glove of Rhys Hoskins, ending the Mets best offensive chance of the night.

Conforto’s seventh home run of the season tied the game in the fifth, but the Mets bats struggled overall, going 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position. Gimenez went 2-4 on his 22nd birthday but also got picked off in the third, allowed the go-ahead run on a misplayed ground ball in the seventh, and ended the game with a groundout in the ninth.

Full recap to follow.
