The Mets fell behind early tonight, when Seth Lugo gave up a solo shot to Rhys Hoskins in the first inning. They tied the game in the bottom of the third, when Andres Gimenez followed a double from Jeff McNeil with an RBI single to tie the game. Gimenez came around to score later in the inning on a bloop single from Michael Conforto to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. The Mets added a run in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly on a pop-up from Andres Gimenez, and another run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout from Dom Smith. Seth Lugo clearly didn’t have his best stuff, but managed to have a really nice outing, managing to strike out eight batters without allowing any further damage.
Jeurys Familia relieved Lugo with a scoreless sixth, and the Mets extended their lead to 5-1 in the bottom half of the inning on a double from Robinson Chirinos. Justin Wilson and Miguel Castro contributed a scoreless inning of relief each, and Edwin Diaz took over for the ninth with a four run lead. Diaz struck out the first two batters he faced in the inning, before issuing back to back walks to create trouble in the ninth. Diaz settled in from there, striking out Rhys Hoskins to seal the 5-1 victory.
Full recap to follow.
