Michael Wacha was awful, Robert Gsellman wasn’t much better in relief and ultimately the game with an injury, and the Orioles defeated the Mets easily in an 11-2 blowout tonight at Citi Field. Wacha gave up five runs, four of them earned, in just four innings of work before Gsellman gave up six runs in three-and-two-thirds innings before leaving the game.
Despite the fact that Orioles starter John Means entered the game with an 8.10 ERA, the Mets’ right-handed-heavy lineup did very little. Jake Marisnick hit a solo home run in the second, and Jeff McNeil hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth.
Whatever hopes the Mets had for making the vastly-expanded playoffs this year are very quickly evaporating.
Full recap to follow.
