Since I'm too late to formally enter my AAOP, I don't need to follow the rules, but I tried to keep it realistic while forming the best team I could, so here is my not fully fleshed out plan:
Sign either Stroman or Gausman (I figure they'll get similar deals and while I'd love both, I don't think it's realistic)
Sign Jon Gray (I've been a fan for a while and I think getting out of Coors will help)
Sign Kris Bryant
Trade for Ketel Marte. (I played around Baseballtradevalues.com and the easiest way to land Marte is to take on MadBum's contract. Wouldn't be the worst thing to have a 6 man rotation until someone gets hurt. McNeil gets it done. The trade simulator actually has that as in the DBacks favor by a lot, so maybe they chip in a prospect, someone like Bryce Jarvis or Slade Cecconi).
Trade for Matt Chapman and Tony Kemp. Adios JD Davis and Mark Vientos.
I'm keeping Nimmo in CF. He was terrible defensively in 2020 and made big improvements in his routes and jumps according to baseballsavant.
Lineup:
Nimmo CF
Marte 2B
Lindor SS
Pete 1B
Chapman 3B
Bryant RF
Smith LF
Cano DH
McCann C
Rotation:
DeGoat
-man (either Stro or Gaus)
Gray
Walker
Carrasco
MadBum
SP Depth - Yamamoto, Megill, Peterson, T. Williams (maybe he goes to the bullpen arm barn)
I'm not going to address the bullpen because most relievers are so volatile, but we'd need a couple guys, esp with Loup gone. Using the MLBTradeRumors FA predictions, this would put me right around the 250M threshold. OF defense is kinda weak, but worth it if Dom is hitting like he's capable of. If he's not hitting, Bryant to LF, Kemp to RF. Or if Cano is not hitting, Dom can DH.
