The Mets have officially announced their signing of 28-year-old right-handed pitcher Taijuan Walker, and the team has placed fellow right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard on the 60-day injured list to open up a spot on its 40-man roster for Walker.

Walker tweeted about joining the Mets and said, “I’m so excited to join the Amazin’ Mets, a legendary franchise with a rich pitching history. I can’t wait to put on that blue and orange, be a part of the team’s incredible rotation and WIN in the Big Apple.” And last night, Walker tweeted a not-so-subtle hint that he was joining the Mets: a photo of a bottle of wine from Tom Seaver’s vineyard.

Syndergaard had Tommy John surgery last spring, and while his recovery has been going well thus far, expecting him back sooner than June would have been a very aggressive recovery timeline. If all continues to go smoothly, he would be eligible rejoin a potentially stacked Mets rotation in early June.
