The Mets have reassigned nineteen players in spring training and optioned three more, their first round of cuts in spring training this year. The reassigned players are:
Pitchers: RHP Matt Allan, RHP Oscar De La Cruz, RHP Ryley Gilliam, RHP J.T. Ginn, RHP Harol González, RHP Trevor Hildenberger, RHP Tylor Megill, RHP Stephen Nogosek, RHP Marcel Rentería, RHP Jared Robinson and LHP Tom Windle.
Position players: Catcher Francisco Álvarez, OF Pete Crow-Armstrong, INF Brett Baty, OF Drew Ferguson, INF Ronny Mauricio, Catcher Nick Meyer, Catcher Hayden Senger and INF Mark Vientos.
And RHP Franklyn Kilome, RHP Sean Reid-Foley and LHP Thomas Szapucki have been optioned to the Mets’ Triple-A roster.
The vast majority of cuts are not surprising, but relief pitcher Trevor Hildenberger has made a good impression early in camp, making his inclusion here a little bit of a surprise. But it sounds like the players cut today will still make appearances in spring training games and be involved in workouts at the Mets’ complex in Port St. Lucie—something that would be a given in a non-pandemic year.
