Final Score: Mets 4, Nationals 0-Walker this way

Both the offense and the defense showed up to secure the series victory.

The Mets defeated the Nationals 4-0 in a game where both alot went right and alot went wrong. First the right. The defense was sparkling, the power bats showed up, Taijuan Walker had a solid outing on the mound to bounce back from his previous poor start, and the bullpen finished off the shut out.

Now the wrong. The umpire blew a call behind home plate with the bases loaded to Brandon Nimmo that would’ve walked in a run. The next inning Pete Alonso hit a home run leading off against Patrick Corbin so perhaps the damage could have been worse had that call gone differently. Then, Francisco Lindor got thrown out at home plate after originally being called safe but replay overturned the call.

The Nationals did stage a couple of threats, and if the Mets had been leading by more it would have been less stressful, but they managed to finish off the win with a standout play by Albert Almora to take the series.
