The Mets officially placed the ace of their staff, Jacob deGrom, on the 10-day IL this afternoon, with what they are calling “right side tightness”. The Mets brought hard-throwing right hander Sean Reid-Foley back from a short exodus to Syracuse as the corresponding move.
deGrom, who’s IL stint will be retroactive to yesterday, looks like he luckily avoided any serious injury, with the Mets themselves saying they are rather optimistic on the outlook of their star.
Reid-Foley has acted as a shuttle arm so far in 2021, often being the first man down and first one back up, but he has impressed in a (very) small sample. The 25 year-old has appeared in just two games in 2021, tossing five innings. He has surrendered just two hits, alongside zero walks and seven strikeouts, as the Mets look for pitchers who can go for multiple innings, with how frequently the bullpen has had to be used in recent days and the mounting injuries to the starting staff.
