Meet the Mets
After a strong two innings for Drew Smith (giving up just one unearned run) serving as the opener, the rest of the Mets bullpen gave up eleven runs, and homers from Jose Peraza, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor were not enough to keep the Mets from losing their second game in a row to the Rays. The team will try to avoid a sweep in the series finale today.
Despite playing on Friday, Jeff McNeil was out of the lineup again yesterday.
J.D. Davis and Seth Lugo will both be heading to Syracuse soon for rehab assignments.
The Mets shuffled their roster a bit prior to the game yesterday.
One positive development from yesterday’s game: Jake Hager made his major league debut in a pinch-hitting appearance, and he had some happy words to say about that afterwards.
Around the National League East
If the loss wasn’t bad enough for Philadelphia, Bryce Harper also had to exit yesterday’s game due to shoulder soreness.
Around Major League Baseball
After getting released by the Angels, future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols is heading to the other side of town to play for the Dodgers.
In less happy news for Los Angeles, Corey Seager is going to have to spend some time on the IL after fracturing his hand on a hit-by-pitch.
Former future Met Jackie Bradley Jr. made a pretty sensational catch yesterday.
This Date in Mets History
Darryl Strawberry hit the first of many home runs in his major league career on this date in 1983.
