Your 2021 New York Mets: They’re not dead.
“They’re down, they’re not dead. They just got hurt.” -Francisco Lindor [NJ]
It’s all cliches but this really is a fun team to root for.
“This team has a big heart — all around it’s a big family, everybody is pulling for each other and ultimately that is going to win a lot of games in the season. Games like this bring us even closer.” -Tomas Nido [New York Post]
“There are different heroes every day, and I think that’s a good team when you see that. We have some guys down with injuries that have been the core of our offense, and when you see guys stepping up in situations like this and [helping] to manufacture runs, that just tells you how good this team is.” -Luis Rojas [MLB]
But did they ‘step up’?
“It’s a big win. Guys are stepping up. We had some more adversity show up in the game, lost a couple of players in the game and guys came in and stepped up.” -Luis Rojas [MLB]
Lindor’s advice to the new Mets making their major league debuts.
“Enjoy the ride, man. You only get one major league debut. I don’t care whether it’s with the worst team in the league or the best team in the league, or the best or the worst pitcher in the league. Go out there, have fun, enjoy the ride and help us win. Help us win. Whatever you do, help us win.” -Francisco Lindor [NJ]
Guy with a 151 wRC+ is going to get more playing time, that’s why they pay him the big bucks.
“Nido’s doing a great job. He’s gonna get more playing time. He’s finding himself the way he’s playing, he’s catching, and he’s been swinging the bat really good.” -Luis Rojas [MLB]
Tony LaRussa: “Disrespectful to the game. Pitchers aren’t hitters so they shouldn’t try to get hits. Then he celebrated like a literal little leaguer. Bush league.”
“I jumped on first like a little leaguer. That’s the coolest thing I’ve ever done in the big leagues. I mean, I got a knock in the show.” -Tommy Hunter [New York Post]
Fans wouldn’t mind if the difficulty sliders were turned down a bit.
“We like the challenge. I know everyone down there is enjoying kind of covering for a lot of the situation going on with the team right now with the injuries. It’s a nice challenge and I think so far overall as a group we’ve handled it pretty well.” -Jacob Barnes [MLB]
Unlike before when ‘hamstring issues’ were so funny.
“Right now, hamstring issues are no joke. We want to see how they go through the day. … You are definitely concerned. You are talking about a few days. But we want to have those results so we can start talking about a timeline or what kind of approach that we take starting [Monday].” -Luis Rojas [MLB]
Luis Rojas on David Peterson ‘Big Inning’ struggles.
“These are the things [Peterson’s] learning on the fly. He was cruising and then one inning, lost it. Not the same pitcher. I thought the hit-by-pitch was a big one when he hit Contreras and things started getting a little fast for him. They ambushed him that inning. Things happen really quick, but it’s a learning process for him. He’s thrown the ball really well for majority of the innings that he’s had this year, but he’s had that one inning in a game or two innings in a game when things just build up.” -Luis Rojas [MLB]
The Mets react to Pillar getting hit.
“You shake your head. You get sick to your stomach.” -Taijuan Walker [New York Post]
“Time stands still.” -James McCann [New York Post]
“This guy is a warrior. You saw him.” -Luis Rojas [New York Post]
Thanks to everyone that has reached out! Scary moment but I’m doing fine! #RBI #gamewinner

Ominous Quote of the Week
“Nothing bad. It was just something we have to take a look at. I don’t think it’s anything major. It’s just some tightness. I really didn’t feel a pull. It’s something we have to take a look at and get through.” -Jeff McNeil [MLB]

SiteBot FacePalm of the Week
“There is nothing wrong with the TLR situation. The media is blowing up a once in a, what every 50 game situation at best. It happens all the time. As usual they make a mountain out of a molehill. Maybe to get the old man fired. Who knows?” -rcnt123
AA Quote of the Week
“First place team baby! Forget the lost weekend. Move on to Atlanta and beat the Barves. Sweep incoming.” -stickguy
