Final score: Marlins 5, Mets 1—I Yam what I Yam

New, comments

The Mets can’t overcome a bumpy second inning from Jordan Yamamoto as they lose both the game and the series to the Marlins.

MLB: New York Mets at Miami Marlins Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets lost the weekend series to the Miami Marlins after losing today’s game. Jordan Yamamoto made his first start for New York facing off against his old team, and had a second inning meltdown where five runs crossed the plate. The rest of his appearance was decent but that mountain proved too arduous for the depleted Mets offense to overcome. Yamamoto ended up leaving the game after the fourth inning with right shoulder soreness, leading the way for Robert Gsellman and Yennsy Díaz to throw four innings of scoreless baseball.

While the offense was unable to overcome the five runs allowed in the second, they did have one run scored, after Johneshwy Fargas doubled and was eventually driven in by Wilfredo Tovar. So despite the offense being depleted beyond belief (and arguably the best mets hitter Tomas Nido not getting a single plate appearance) they still didn’t go down without a fight. The Mets come home tomorrow to start a spate of home games against the Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves.

Full recap to follow.
