The struggling Rockies made Citi Field look a bit like Coors in their 3-2 win over the Mets. They tagged David Peterson for two home runs in the second and were generally tattooing the ball all night. Their third run scored when Johneshwy Fargas ran into the wall attempting to make a catch that went for a RBI triple. Unfortunately for Fargas he was later removed from the game with a shoulder injury.
After getting shutdown for eight innings against Colorado starter Austin Gomer, the Mets trailed 3-1 heading into the ninth. Brandon Drury led off with a home run to pull the Mets within a run but a rally came up just short.
Despite ending the game with a strikeout, first baseman James McCann provided the other highlights. He first ruined Austin Gomber’s shutout attempt with a home run in the seventh. However, what stood out for McCann was an absolutely sparkling play he made on his very first attempt in the field.
Tomas Nido also provided some defensive highlights when he made a nice play on a wild pitch that bounced right back to him off the backstop and he gunned down a runner at third. He also threw out a runner trying to steal in the eighth.
This game was closer than it had any right to be but at the end of the day the Mets handed the Rockies just their third road win of the year.
