The Mets, after getting not really rained out last night, dropped the first game of today’s doubleheader 4-1 to the Cardinals. The game was, perhaps, the least aesthetically pleasing of any Mets game in recent memory, derailed by replay shenanigans, injury delays, shadows that limited camerawork, and generally sloppy play.
Marcus Stroman went five innings and kept his team in the game after giving up a first inning home run to Paul Goldschmidt. The lone Mets run scored on a botched double play by Nolan Arenado, and that run felt more lucky than anything. However, a 2-run home run by noted Met killer Paul DeJong put the game out of reach for the Mets’ anemic offense, and the bats went down quietly.
Full recap to follow after game 2.
