The Mets took the second game of their four-game series with a 3-2 win over the Cubs at Citi Field tonight. Taijuan Walker, though shaky early, settled into another excellent performance, going seven innings, striking out 12 and walking none.
Pete Alonso drove in all thee runs for the Mets, initially helping the Mets tie the game in the bottom of the third after Walker was touched up in the top of the inning with a two-run single off of Alec Mills. Alonso added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to put the Mets on top with a lead they would never relinquish.
Seth Lugo pitched the final two innings of the game, recording his first save of 2021 despite walking a tight rope in the ninth. Thank you, Willie Harris.
Full recap to follow.
