The Mets suffered their worst loss in a couple weeks, coughing up a sizable lead to lose in extras 6-5. Three RBI from Dom Smith - including his first home run in 138 AB - along with an RBI triple from Francisco Lindor built a 4-0 leading heading into the bottom of the sixth. Arizona wouldn’t go quietly, however, mashing a three-run home run off Marcus Stroman in his final inning of work as his stuff clearly waned. Edwin Diaz eventually coughed up the lead in the ninth before Trevor May allowed two runs in the bottom of the tenth to seal the loss.

June has been a rough month for the Mets in recent years, as most fans are aware, and this was hardly an ideal way to start. Still, these sort of games do happen, even against bad teams like the Diamondbacks. At 26-21, the Mets remain in first place in NL East. They’ll square off against Madison Bumgarner for one more in the desert tomorrow afternoon on YouTube.

Full recap to follow.
