Tonight in Denver, Major League Baseball hosts its first Home Run Derby since the 2019 version, which Mets first baseman Pete Alonso won. If you want to re-live the experience of that derby and gut the full breakdown of what tonight’s will look like, check out the piece here from earlier today by Vas Drimalitis.
The star of the show is naturally Shohei Ohtani, who has been excellent both as a hitter—leading the big leagues with 33 home run sin the first half—and a pitcher for the Angels. But the field is deep, and the bracket format should make for a fun experience. And then there’s the whole altitude of Coors Field thing, plus the elimination of the humidor for the contest, that should make for some very long home runs.
Matchups
- Shohei Ohtani (1) vs. Juan Soto (8)
- Salvador Perez (4) vs. Pete Alonso (5)
- Joey Gallo (2) vs. Trevor Story (7)
- Matt Olson (3) vs. Trey Mancini (6)
