For the second time in as many appearances, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso won the Home Run Derby. Alonso’s showing in Colorado was impressive, as he hit 35 home runs in the first round to advance easily, bopping his head along to the beats of classic New York City hip-hop in the process.

The music continued throughout the event. Alonso beat Salvador Perez by a 35-27 score in the first round, Juan Soto by a 16-15 score—with plenty of time to spare—in the second round, and a 23-22 victory over Trey Mancini in the final round. And in each of those rounds, Alonso made it look easy, hitting a whole bunch of home runs that would make any baseball fan spontaneously combust in laughter.

As far as distance goes, Alonso did his best work in the first round, with his longest home run traveling 514 feet. But he hit one 509 feet in the final round and had a 498-footer in the semi-final, too, making for a very entertaining showing throughout.
