Final Score: Mets 8, Yankees 3 - Taijuan it that way

Tell me why (the Mets can’t score 8 runs more frequently).

MLB: New York Mets at New York Yankees Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets took the first (belated) game of the Subway Series by smacking around the Yankees 8-3 this afternoon in the Bronx. Taijuan Walker took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning before giving up an opposite field home run to Aaron Judge. That home run would be more or less inconsequential, due to the Mets offense getting on track and scoring eight runs, mostly on singles.

Brandon Nimmo rejoined the team today, and went 3 for 6 with two runs scored. Dom Smith drove in three, on an opposite field double in the sixth inning. Kevin Pillar drove in the final two runs of the game with a 2-RBI single.

Full recap to follow.
