While the Mets haven’t been specifically linked to many players in trade rumors as today’s 4:00 PM EDT trade deadline approaches, the team has talked to the Cubs about Kris Bryant, according to Jon Heyman, and the Twins about Jose Berrios, per Joel Sherman. Whether or not those constitute trade talks that actually lead to a trade remains to be seen. As for the Bryant rumor, Heyman also mentioned that the Mets were talking to Chicago about pitcher Zach Davies.
In the case of Berrios, the Mets weren’t impressed by the Twins’ initial ask when they inquired about him, per Tim Britton, who tweeted that the price hadn’t really budged as of last night. That matches up with an update from Mike Puma last night in which the Mets said asking prices on the trade market were “borderline laughable.”
Since the team’s new ownership and front office have been in place, there hasn’t been all that much information out there in the way of rumors before moves are imminent. With any luck, that will be the case today, as the team remains in first place and could certainly use some upgrades to help lock up the division and go into the playoffs strong.
