Mets have interest in Pirates’ Adam Frazier

The Mets are one of the teams interested in the Pirates’ Adam Frazier, who primarily plays second base but has some major league experience in the outfield, per Jon Heyman. The 29-year-old is a left-handed hitter.

Frazier has hit .326/.396/.461 with four home runs and five stolen bases and a 137 wRC+ in 374 plate appearances so far this year. That’s a vast improvement upon his numbers over the previous two seasons, during which he combined to hit just .265/.325/.402 with a 92 wRC+. And while he has played in the outfield, mostly in left in recent years, he’s spent the overwhelming majority of his time at second base.

If the Mets were to trade for Frazier, it would be interesting to see whose playing time they would have him take. Jeff McNeil has been the team’s primary second baseman when healthy, but he’s struggled at the plate this year, hitting just .243/.331/.329 with a 93 wRC+ in 172 plate appearances. But trading for Frazier and putting him at second would create something of a logjam at third base, with McNeil, Jonathan Villar, Luis Guillorme, and potentially J.D. Davis in the mix for starts at the hot corner.
