Taijuan Walker looked as good as he has in nearly two months, starting his night with 6.1 hitless innings before serving up a solo homer to Will Smith in the seventh, which tied the game at 1. Corey Seager then immediately followed with a double, and after a strikeout of AJ Pollock, Chris Taylor worked a walk and that ended Walker’s day.
Aaron Loup came in and got out of the jam, as he has so much this season. Miguel Castro tossed a scoreless 8th, and Seth Lugo followed suit in the 9th.
The Mets were barely able to touch Walker Buehler all night. The only run they could muster against him was a Michael Conforto solo homer in the fourth. The Mets got the first two men on against Buehler in the seventh, but the Mets, as they have in seemingly every big spot this year, failed to get anything across.
The offense still couldn’t get anything going in the 8th or 9th, which sent us to extras tied at 1-1. Yennsy Diaz came on for the Mets in the 10th and surrendered the go-ahead double to Cody Bellinger to score the free runner, but he was able to escape the inning without allowing another run. The Mets couldn’t score their free runner in their half of the 10th, and lost 2-1. The Dodgers’ bullpen didn’t allow a single Mets hitter to reach after Buehler left.
The Mets are 1.5 games out of first place.
