Final Score: Dodgers 14, Mets 4 - Swept away

An embarrassing way to finish off a three-game series.

The Mets dropped the final game of their series with the Dodgers in embarrassing fashion, falling flat on their faces in a 14-4 loss. Carlos Carrasco gave up six runs in only two innings, Max Muncy hit three home runs, and both Brandon Drury and Kevin Pillar pitched in the ninth. On top of all that, the Mets went 0-for-12 with RISP, squandering multiple opportunities for big innings. That about sums it up.

Truthfully, filling this space for a recap like this is difficult. We could expound on who failed on offense, but that would result in little more than listing the entire offense. The same is true on the pitching side, though Jake Reed deserves credit for tossing three scoreless innings after Carrasco’s abbreviated start. After spending most of the season with a somewhat-justified belief that this team would right itself eventually, it instead seems like the Mets are headed for another season with no playoffs and perhaps a losing record.

At 59-58, the Mets remain in third in the NL East. They have ten games coming up against the Giants and Dodgers, starting tomorrow evening. Buckle up folks, this is gonna be a bumpy ride.
