Meet the Mets

The Mets looked like they were headed for yet another frustrating loss, despite the best efforts of Tylor Megill and the bullpen. It took until the ninth inning when they finally managed to tie the game. Even though they scored in the eleventh, it was the twelfth inning when they went ahead for good on the strength of a Kevin Pillar three-run home run. The team finally stopped the bleeding but it doesn’t get any easier as they face the Dodgers once again.

With James McCann suffering from back spasms, the team called up catcher Chance Sisco and optioned Yennsy Díaz to Triple-A.

Before the game, owner Steve Cohen took to Twitter to complain about his underperforming team and if things continue to go south big changes will probably soon follow.

Both Luis Rojas and Kevin Pillar understood where the owner was coming from, and hitting coach Hugh Quattlebaum took some responsibility for the recent failures.

It’s no secret that both Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeil have struggled this year but perhaps they are finally showing signs of life at the plate.

The Mets have reportedly thought about shutting down Jacob deGrom for the rest of the season

Around the National League East

Freddie Freeman hit for the cycle in the Braves’ 11-9 win over the Marlins.

The Marlins have been struggling yet again this season, but Anthony Bender has been a bright spot in their bullpen.

The Phillies dropped their second straight game against the Diamondbacks with a 4-2 loss in the desert.

The Nationals completed a sweep of the Blue Jays with a 8-5 win.

Around Major League Baseball

After suffering a scary injury on the mound, Athletics' pitcher Chris Bassit is doing much better and still has complete vision after being struck by a line drive.

The Tigers suspended broadcaster Jack Morris indefinitely after he used a fake accent during Shohei Ohtani’s at-bat in Tuesday’s game.

On Wednesday, Ohtani was on the mound and pitched eight dominant innings while hitting his 40th home run of the year.

MLB Pipeline released their updated prospect rankings with a Mets prospect making a huge jump up the board.

Day 2 wrapped up in the hearing against Trevor Bauer as the woman seeking the restraining order finished her testimony. Sheryl Ring wrote in depth about the legal strategy used by Bauer’s team for Beyond the Box Score.

Major League Baseball proposed a salary floor of $100 million that will be funded by teams that go over a $180 million luxury tax threshold.
