Final Score: Dodgers 4, Mets 1—Dodger blues

Mets drop fourth straight matchup against Los Angeles to drop back below .500.

MLB: New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets drew a bullpen game against the Dodgers in the series opener in Los Angeles, but were unable to break through against opener Corey Knebel or Evan Phillips over the first two frames.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers were able to scratch a couple of runs off of Mets starter Taijuan Walker in the bottom of the second with the benefit of only one hit. After Corey Seager drew a walk with the help of a couple of questionable ball calls, Will Smith followed with a double to put runners on second and third, and a pair of productive ground outs gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.

The Mets cut the lead to 2-1 on a J.D. Davis RBI double off of Phillips in the top of the fourth. However, when Los Angeles plated a pair of two out runs in the bottom of the fifth—with the key hit coming from former Met Billy McKinney—the 4-1 lead felt much larger, as the Mets would muster few threats the rest of the way, held to six hits by seven Dodger pitchers in total.

The loss drops the Mets back below .500, at 60-61. The team will look to get back to .500—and on the board against the Dodgers in 2021—in the second game of the four game series Friday night in Los Angeles.

Full recap to follow.
