Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (42-66)

Buffalo 6, Syracuse 4 / 6 (BOX)

Syracuse lost in a rain shortened game, though there was plenty of action involved. All of the Mets runs came on home runs. The first, a Cheslor Cuthbert solo homer, made it a 1-0 game in the second inning. That 1-0 score actually held until the fifth inning, where starter Josh Walker simply imploded. He gave up all six runs in that frame, including two home runs.

The Mets made a comeback attempt in the top of the sixth (which for some reason was not listed on the box score at the time of the writing) by way of a Travis Blankenhorn three run home run (which definitely happened). However, the Mets did not get a chance to come back any further, as the game was called for rain after the half inning.

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (44-64)

BROOKLYN 6, HUDSON VALLEY 4 (BOX)

Brooklyn’s offense got off to a hot start, when Cody Bohanek hit a 2-0 pitch over the fence for a home run to lead off the game (Bohanek had an incredible game, going 3-3 with two walks, including the aforementioned homer and a stolen base later on). Hudson Valley got it and then some quickly, scoring two in the bottom of the first.

A Zach Ashford single tied the game at two in the second inning, and Brooklyn followed that up with their big inning in the third. Bohanek walked (and stole second), and Francisco Álvarez worked a walk of his own to put two on. Jose Peroza, you guessed it, walked to load the bases with one away. Luke Ritter struck out to make it two outs, but Wilmer Reyes, recently activated from the IL, redeemed him with a two RBI double (though three runs scored on the play, the last one on an error by the outfielder), pushing the Cyclones lead to 5-2. Reyes added the sixth run of the game in the fifth by way of double play that forced a run home, so he did not get credit in the box score for the insurance run that made it 6-2 Brooklyn.

Hudson Valley made a comeback attempt against Dylan Hall, scoring two in the eighth amidst two wild pitches, and getting the tying run on base in the ninth before Evy Ruibal relieved him and forced top prospect Anthony Volpe to fly out to end the game.

ROSTER ALERT: LF Antoine Duplantis assigned to Binghamton Rumble Ponies from Brooklyn Cyclones.
