Final Score: Red Sox 12, Mets 5—Schwarber Strikes Again (and Again...)

Stop, stop, he’s already dead!

MLB: New York Mets at Boston Red Sox David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets lost (again) to the Red Sox as Kyle Schwarber had a multi-homer game (again) against Taijuan Walker. It was an ugly, blowout loss as this disappointing season draws to a slow, painful close.

The aforementioned Schwarber hit a solo shot off Walker in the first, and with Boston leading 3-1 in the second, added a three-run bomb for good measure. Walker lasted just two innings, allowing six earned runs as his troubling second half struggles continued.

The Mets had chances to score against Chris Sale, who was far from his best tonight, but they only managed to scratch across a run in the second and another in the fifth. By the time they scored their second run on a Francisco Lindor single, they were already down by eight. Pete Alonso added a solo homer in the seventh—his second in the series—but the game was well over by then. Gary, Keith, and Ron whipped out the Media Guide in the seventh, which is a good indicator of how this game went.

As if the result wasn’t bad enough, it was yet another game that clocked in at over three-and-a-half hours, and with the way the team is playing recently, you feel every bit of that run time.

Full recap to follow.
