Marcus Stroman and the Mets opened their final homestand of the season with a 5-2 win over the Marlins in the first game of a doubleheader. It what could be Stroman’s final appearance in a blue and orange home uniform he stole the show. Not only was he again solid on the mound, he stole a base, and gave Jazz Chisholm a piggyback ride. His only blemish was a very long home run given up to Lewin Diaz.
On the other side of the coin, Francisco Lindor carried the Mets’ offense and drove in three of their five runs. He put them on the board early in the first with a RBI single, and then gave them breathing room in the sixth with a two-run shot of his own. However, the rest of the team got lucky since they scored their runs in the third after two misplays from the Marlins. Jonathan Villar drove in a run after Jesus Sanchez couldn’t quite come up with a ball in the outfield and then Kevin Pillar hit a grounder Eddy Alvarez couldn’t field cleanly which led to another run.
Overall Lindor, Javier Báez, and Pete Alonso had good days at the plate while impressive innings from Seth Lugo and Edwin Díaz nailed down the win to take game one of the doubleheader.
