Final Score: Mets 13, Nationals 6 — In Play, Run(s)

The Mets hit the baseball hard today, dropping a 13 spot in the woeful Washington Nationals in the nation’s capital.

The offenses for both sides got off to hot starts on this Sunday afternoon, with the Mets putting up a four spot on the promising Josiah Gray in the first inning. After loading the bases with no outs, Michael Conforto chased two home with a well struck single. Javier Báez added one with an RBI single of his own, and Jeff McNeil chased the fourth run of the inning home with a deep sacrifice fly.

The Nationals came back and touched up Taijuan Walker in the bottom of the frame, though, scoring three runs on two home runs; one off the bat of Lane Thomas, and the other a two run homer by Josh Bell.

Jonathan Villar and Báez solo homers in the second and third stretched the lead to 6-3, and Walker settled down to throw three scoreless frames. Washington got back in it with a three run fifth, tying the game at six and chasing Walker from the game. The Mets bullpen settled down nicely, as Jeurys Familia, Miguel Castro, Aaron Loup, Trevor May and Yennsy threw 4.2 hitless frames in relief of Walker, who had a up and down outing.

The Mets took the lead in the top of the eighth on a Patrick Mazeika sacrifice fly, and broke it open in the ninth, with Francisco Lindor leading off the frame with a solo shot to dead center, making it 8-6. An RBI single by Conforto made it 9-6, and a Kevin Pillar grand slam put the icing on the cake, making it 13-6.
