Mets Daily Prospect Report, 7/7/22: Blankenhorn still bashing

Catch up on all the Mets prospects in yesterday’s minor league action!

MLB: New York Mets at Atlanta Braves Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

*All results from games played on Wednesday July 6, 2022

Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (34-45)

GAME 1: SYRACUSE 9, BUFFALO 4 / 7 (BOX)

The Mets erupted for seven home runs in only seven innings to power past the Buffalo Bisons in Game 1. Travis Blankenhorn continued his recent tear with a pair of bombs, the rehabbing Travis Jankowski went deep, and top prospects Mark Vientos and Khalil Lee had homers as well. On the mound, Thomas Szapucki was bad, but got the win thanks to the big offensive performance.

GAME 2: BUFFALO 6, SYRACUSE 4 / 7 (BOX)

Syracuse was cruising for a fairly easy victory until the bullpen imploded in the sixth. Trey Cobb coughed up two runs while recording only one out, then Michel Otanez came in and didn’t retire a single one of the four batters he faced. The result was a five run inning for Buffalo that cost the Mets the game. Both Nick Plummer and Kramer Robertson went deep in the loss.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-5/31-46)

PORTLAND 12, BINGHAMTON 5 (BOX)

The Rumble Ponies made six errors in an ugly, ugly loss. Seven of twelve Sea Dog runs were unearned in a game that surely would’ve induced Keith sighs of legendary proportions. On the offensive side, Brett Baty had a pair of hits and Wyatt Young went deep. Tough to appreciate any of that when your team can’t field the ball.

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (6-5/36-41)

BROOKLYN 4, ABERDEEN 2 (BOX)

Brooklyn jumped out to an early lead, then clung on to win the game after giving up some runs late. Newly promoted Alex Ramirez had a pair of hits, while both Nic Gaddis and Matt Rudick went deep. On the mound, Nick Zwack was the real star, striking out ten in six innings while allowing only three baserunners. The left has been excellent in Brooklyn, striking out more than a batter per inning and running an ERA under two. He’s old for the level, but might be a name to keep an eye on as an organizational depth guy.

Single-A: St. Lucie Mets (5-6/45-31)

DAYTONA 3, ST. LUCIE 2 (BOX)

The Mets only managed five hits and struck out 13 times in a narrow loss to the Tortugas. Omar De Los Santos had the only major offensive blow, launching a two-run home run in the third. The poor offensive performance undermined a great day on the mound from Javier Atencio, who struck out 11 in five innings while giving up only one run.

Roster Alert: St. Lucie Mets placed LHP Daniel Juarez on the temporarily inactive list.

Complex: FCL Mets (13-8)
