The Mets are set to hire former Blue Jays manager John Gibbons as their new bench coach and Mike Sarbaugh as their new third-base coach, per reports from The Athletic and Andy Martino.

Gibbons had two managerial stints in Toronto, the first from 2004 until 2008 and the second from 2013 through 2018. During the latter stretch, the Blue Jays won the American League East in 2015 and earned an American League Wild Card spot in 2016. In both of those seasons, Toronto was eliminated in the ALCS, but the 2015 season was the first time the franchise made the playoffs since it won the second of back-to-back World Series titles in 1993. In total, Gibbons had a 793-789 record as the Blue Jays’ manager.

Sarbaugh spent eleven years on Cleveland’s coaching staff and a total of 33 years with that organization, and he served as the team’s third base coach for the past nine of those years.
