The Mets got some bad news today, as infielder Ronny Mauricio has suffered a torn ACL iin his right knee while playing in the Dominican Winter League. As you might expect, the 22-year-old will require surgery.

A consensus top-100 prospect in baseball from 2020 through 2022, Mauricio fell off all of those lists coming into the 2023 season. After a hot start in Triple-A Syracuse, he leveled off a bit before eventually getting called up to the Mets’ major league roster and making his big league debut on September 1.

In Syracuse, Mauricio hit .292/.346/.506 with 23 home runs and 24 stolen bases in 490 plate appearances. After his call-up, he made 108 major league plate appearances and hit just .248/.296/.347 with two home runs and seven stolen bases.

In winter ball, Mauricio was raking, as he hit .433/.452/.667 with one home run and two stolen bases in 31 plate appearances.
