The Mets’ trend of signing players who struggled in 2023 continues, as Jeff Passan reports that the team has agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with right-handed relief pitcher Jorge López.

Set to turn 31 in early February, López had a 5.95 ERA and a 5.76 FIP in 59.0 innings this year with the Twins, Marlins, and Orioles. The Twins traded him to the Marlins shortly before the trade deadline, and the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Marlins in early September.

In his major league career, López has a 5.51 ERA and a 4.97 FIP. His best season undoubtedly came in 2022, as he had a 2.54 ERA and a 3.52 FIP in 71.0 innings of work for the Orioles and Twins. In that season, it was Baltimore that traded him away to Minnesota.
